“Despite all I have seen and experienced, I still get the same simple thrill out of glimpsing a tiny patch of snow in a high mountain gully and feel the same urge to climb towards it.”
Sir Edmund Hillary
Hillary was awarded the Livingstone Medal of the RSGS in 1953, jointly with Sir John Hunt, “for perseverance and will-power in reaching the summit of Everest.”
Sounds like climbing is an urge he had trouble resisting. Such a remarkable man!

That’s certainly true, Pat, from what I’ve read. A very modest man, too, generous and kind-hearted.
